Hands-on-Assists

In the ever-evolving landscape of yoga teaching, the discussion around hands-on assists has sparked both concern and reflection. While touch has traditionally been a powerful tool for providing somatic information and fostering connection, concerns around consent have prompted a shift in teaching approaches. This evolving conversation reflects a broader cultural shift towards prioritizing consent and safety in all interpersonal interactions. Recognizing and respecting these boundaries is essential for fostering an environment of trust and inclusivity within yoga spaces.

Yoga teachers are challenged to find innovative ways to support their students without relying on physical touch. Intentional verbal cueing, demonstrations, and individualized assists based on verbal consent are just a few strategies that have emerged as alternatives to traditional hands-on assists.

The 200-hour yoga teacher training offered by the Therapeutic Yoga Institute emerges as a transformative opportunity for yoga teachers. Through a comprehensive teaching methodology and effective communication techniques, attendees are equipped to create safe and supportive yoga environments where consent is prioritized and respected. Moreover, teachers acquire the skills to deliver enhancing hands-on assists should they opt to integrate hands-on assists into their classes.

By engaging in this training program, teachers not only deepen their understanding of therapeutic yoga practices but also contribute to the cultivation of a more compassionate and inclusive yoga community. In a world where the boundaries of physical touch are constantly being redefined, the Therapeutic Yoga Institute provides a vital platform for educators to navigate these complexities with wisdom and sensitivity.
